The name of MaanTechnoplus is known only to a few hundred people, but the products it has created had probably affected millions of people’s lives. Perhaps no other company has sold as many heavy duty pillar drill machines as we had.
This post reveals what parts we use in our pillar drilling machines. It is written for anybody who wants to gain knowledge about different parts of pillar drill machines whether he is an engineering student, a production manager, or even a machine shop owner.
After reading this post, you will get all the basic information that you wanted about the parts of the pillar drill. So, without further ado, let’s get started...
Pillar Drilling Machine Parts
The main parts of pillar drill machine are, and The following represent the various pillar drill machine parts:
Base
Column or Pillar
Worktable
Spindle
Drill Head
Motor
Now let’s discuss it one by one.
Base
The base is the most important part of the pillar drill machine, it is the foundation. It bears the whole weight of all the parts mounted on the machine. Every base used in MaanTechnoplus Pillar Drill is made of high-graded industrial cast iron and there is an interesting reason behind it.
You see, Pillar Drill Machine is not a typical drill machine, it is a very special kind of drilling machine. Every time an operator turns it on to do his job (which is obviously to make a hole or a thread in a workpiece) lots of elements start working in rhythm. And then he slowly feeds the drill bit into the workpiece, which causes vibration in the machine. And due to the vibration, the machine will start moving from its original position, and this may increase the chances of an accident.
Also, too much vibration in parts such as motor, spindle, or gears can lead to a breakdown. This may result in financial loss to the machine owner. To avoid all the above problems, we at MaanTechnoplus use high-grade cast iron because cast iron has a remarkable ability to absorb shock and vibration.
Column or Pillar
The column is a vertical pole mounted on the rear side of the base. This is the second most important part of the pillar drill. The rest of the machine parts such as the worktable, drill head, and electric motor are fitted on the column. Just like the base, the column is also made from cast iron.
Worktable
As the name suggests, the worktable is a square-shaped (or sometimes round-shaped) thick plate attached to the pillar. The main function of the table is to hold the workpiece during the machining operation so that it does not slip out of its position or else the hole will be of not desired size or may accident occur.
We at MaanTechnoplus, have designed a very special type of worktable that will allow you to drill a hole in parts with varying heights. Inspired by the rack and pinion mechanism, this table is very easy to use, you can adjust the height of the table simply by using a hand-wheel attached at the back of the table.
Spindle
The spindle is a round-shaped sleeve-grinded shaft used to holds and rotates the drill bit. You can control its depth simply by using a feed handle. It is very easy to use.
Drill Head
The drill head is mounted on the column and it drives the spindle. It has a mechanism for different speeds and feeds. You can find various control functions on the head such as depth adjustment scale, feed control wheel, lock for spindle movement.
Motor
A motor is mounted on the top of the column. It is the powerhouse of the machine. The rotary power of the motor is transferred by using a pully or gear drive.
Conclusion
So that covers all of those major parts that are used in any pillar drilling machine. I hope you liked the article.
